Description
I went ahead and bought out Hank and Staal just because that is the least ideal situation, i.e.: conservative planning.

If you can find takers for them with deals structured something like this:
Staal (with 50% retained) for 7th rd pick
and/or
Hank (with 50% retained) for 4th/5th rd pick

I would do something like that, otherwise we'll stick with the buyouts. We are not in a position to be paying picks/promising prospects to get rid of those 1 yr remaining contracts.

When it comes to the trade: Nichushkin is the primary target for me (middle 6 fwd can play all situations, only W). Strome is the primary piece going to COL (top 6 fwd can play all situations and C or W)
There are going to be COL fans who say absolutely no way, and NYR fans who say the same, thus I think it is probably close to fair valuation.

Brendan Smith goes at the '21 TDL for a 4th or 5th after a rebound season.
DeAngelo moves to the left to play with Lundkvist and Miller/Trouba are the 2nd pair.

PS: This team is really solid top to bottom.

Strictly from a value point of view, I do not disagree with you.

From a "what fields a better team on the ice for NYR, one that trades those players, or one that retains them?" - I think the answer is the former.

fair point, but in this scenario you have 2.7 million left in space which is enough to keep Lemieux and Strome

Avs decline

Value is interesting but Strome is a bad target for the team, will cost too much, he will take a bloated 1 year deal and head to UFA, he is a 3C, nothing more and htey have Compher for that role.
Nuke is such a good fit, Dont mess whats not broken

Lias will be AHL bound on that avs roster build, if he didnt like that with the Rangers, he wont like that with the Avs.
Lemieux would be a nice add but then youa re just swapping parts that are similar with him and Jost

I think Avs do a bunch of moving their roster around dont really get any better so dont really see the benefit for the move

It is enough to keep Lemieux, but not Strome. He has arbitration rights and easily gets 4+m/1yr.

But again the point isn't strictly value/money/cap. It's, where do those 2 players fit on the roster assuming we traded picks for Nuke/Jost? Strome would fit for sure as 3c (again, he actually doesn't fit cap wise though), while Lemieux, well, he would fit MAYBE as the 4LW, but I personally am pretty happy with Gettinger there.

Unless you're saying, just to not make the trade at all and keep Lemieux/Strome, while not acquiring Nuke/Jost, but again, my point is which team is better AND cheaper, and the answer is, after the trade happens, NYR are a better team on both counts.
