I’m sorry but you don’t sign Panarin to $11.6 M per year, have the 2 pick and take who is supposed to be elite, following year have the 1 pick who is supplied to be elite to generational, have Zibby on a cheap contract still to still rebuild. It wastes Panarin contract, and it wastes Zibby cheap contract. The time is to win now. NYR don’t have many holes. They have a top 4 LHD hole and a 2/3C hole due to the fact that nobody is certain if Chytil will be used as a C or a winger. As far as Georgiev goes, he won’t sign that cheap of a deal, the cheapest you’d get him is 2 years for 2.25M, if 3 years it’ll be closer to 2.75M. Also feel like if anybody, Fox would be the dman to move to the left side of TDA is extended.

ok - glad you have an opinion. however, they are still in a rebuild with Hank, Staal and Smith on the roster and Shatty's $6M buyout - that is over $20M in dead(worthless) cap.
timing is everything, and next year they will compete, but not very dissimilar from this past season - maybe a playoff push in March but that is it. teams that rush rebuilds fail.
how many franchises can say they completed a rebuild in just about 3 season? not many...

also, JD already confirmed that they are staying the course, feel free to go watch the interview, it's on the Ranger's twitter.

Why rebuild still? this team's only hole is at LD. Try to move one of your RD's (probably Deangelo) for a LD and NYR are set

because the $20M in worthless cap hurts their depth, the left side of their D is atrocious and they need a real 2C.
this team needs to get over next years hump and only then will they be ready to truly compete.
they were in the playoffs in the 16/17 season. if they full rebuild and get to the playoffs by the 21/22 season that is incredible.
when teams rush rebuilds they end up like the Maple Leafs...

I totally understand they’re staying the course to an exten. Everybody has an opinion and because none of us are GMs, none of us are wrong for having different opinions. If Smith gets buried, it saves $1M not much but it’s something. The near $20M in basically dead/useless cap sucks and we all agree. If there is ANY truth to Hank retiring to play 1 year with his brother in Europe, which in return is a major win as its cap savings is massive, that alone in theory could give NYR room to offer a LHD a contract. I still strongly believe they should attempt to trade TDA or Strome to get that top 4 LHD, but if they have the room (Hank retires, Smith buries saves $1M, in theory they can offer Krug a 1 year deal for say $8M which is more than Boston would be able to pay) and just lock up the defensive unit for this season before the cap hopefully rises again and all of their contracts are officially off the books.
