Description
Well, I got myself fired last time. So let's try this again. The rules for making Armchair GMs:

1. Don't be a typical Buffalo, Toronto, Rangers fan. The home team guys aren't as valuable as you think.
2. To be realistic everyone should be upset at least a bit on both sides.

First thing I learned was that I undersold Reinhart a bit. Colorado fans were too happy with it, Sabres fans were...well, nevermind.

Second, I royally screwed up the Ristolainen trade. Never intended to imply he was worth 10 OA. Wasn't thinking about where Winnipeg fell.

Finally, I apparently possibly overpaid for Dvorak. I don't think it was so bad but I'll revise a bit.

So let's try again... Again: the goal is to be somewhat competitive this year with an eye to the future (they're 2-3 years away from being truly competitive) and clearing a ton of cap by the end of 20-21.

Space left for the $1.5M cap penalty.

1.
BUF
  1. Bowers, Shane
  2. Compher, J.T.
  3. Kaut, Martin
  4. 2020 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Compher is a solid middle six depth add with cost certainty that Buffalo desperately needs and who Jost is making expendable in Colorado.

Kaut is a solid B+ prospect (right?) with the potential to replace Reinhart over the longer term. It's not hard riding shotgun with Eichel. Get the puck, pass it to him, stand in open ice.

The first looks like a VERY late first after last night's game. So COL adds another prospect. Newhook is NOT going to happen. Byram? NO. So that leaves me with Bowers or Timmins in all likelihood. I took the center. He might only top out as bottom six but roll the dice.

Quantity over quality but I'm selling high on Reinhart instead of overpaying him. It's time to shake things up, take some risks, and try something different.
COL
  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
2.
BUF
  1. Perreault, Mathieu
  2. Roslovic, Jack [RFA Rights]
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Risto to Winnipeg makes too much sense. They desperately need D and it's time to move on for Buffalo. Risto has value. He's not a cap dump. Worse defensmen (Ceci as the main piece in a deal for Connor Brown) have been traded for more. But Risto doesn't get you Roslovic and a 2nd alone.

You take back a cap dump in Perreault. He's wildly overpaid for a 4C or third line winger with an injury history who is in rapid decline. Not willing to give up on Mittelstadt or Thompson yet (selling low) so send back a 4th.

Of course, if Winnipeg trades Ehlers or Laine then they hold onto Roslovic and that changes to Vesalainen.

So Risto and a 4th for Roslovic, 2nd, & a cap dump.
WPG
  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus
  2. 2020 4th round pick (BUF)
3.
BUF
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. Hinostroza, Vinnie [RFA Rights]
  3. Raanta, Antti
Additional Details:
A young cost controlled center to stop-gap at 2C for Cozens with upside. It's a big risk for 8 OA but so is whoever you draft at 8 OA. This is help now plus one year of an injury prone rental goalie to time-share with Ullmark as we continue to try to figure out what he is.

I re-thought the 2nd coming back from the Yotes. With an owner in the casino business who is likely hurting financially right now, I think they go the Ottawa route so they're not going to want to move picks. So instead Buffalo gets Hinistroza who is going to want to get paid as a depth RW option. Another chance to roll the dice on a potential middle 6 player who had a pretty bad year and is down on their depth chart.

Hutton goes back purely as a cap dump. No retention this time due to the amount of money coming Buffalo's way.

I see AZ as being motivated to get a high quality draft pick for the cost control. They gut their centers, dump bad contracts, and go full rebuild.

That said, I see this as a possible overpay for 8 OA. Does Hinistroza have more value than a 2nd?

Trading Reinhart seems like a really poor decision but that return would ease the sting a bit.

You didn't sign Roslovic.

Your wingers suck, shouldn't trade Reinhart.

If youre getting Dvorak I'd rather see Doonskoi than Compher. Cozens should be playing 3C and our RW on your lineup sucks. Mojo is not a 2nd line player so I'd have Skinner, Dvorak, Doonskoi as line 2. GIve Cozens Mojo and Kahun. Mojo can teach Cozens as he's a well seasoned vet thats played all positions and has a great IQ. I don't personally like the COL trade because we immediatley regress. We may have recieved prospects, but they dont help the team right away. I think if you HAD to trade Reino you make sure Newhook is in the deal. I like Newhook Doonskoi and Graves, or I wouldnt bother. If we move him it would have to be for a significant haul. Most certainly that can help the team now.

You told on yourself by claiming Reinhart rides shotgun to Eichel and cleans up on him. That is not at all true. Both are better for playing with each other.

You go into a Reinhart trade with a complete misconception about him.

He is 24, has 4 20 goal seasons(hes played 5 and the 5th season he had 17) on a team that essentially has one line and has developed a well rounded game. quantity doesn't cut it.
