Description
1) Nick Bjugstad: I think he fills the 3C role next season. He's supposedly 100% healthy and is in a contract year.

2) Jack Johnson: The Pens are playing a big role in JJ's life at this point and I don't see him leaving. He's going to play the rest of this contract out in Pittsburgh.

3) Montour: A very solid addition to this D core. Gives us 3 capable RDs who could move up and down the lineup.

4) LD is still a position of weakness if one of Dumo/Pettersson get hurt

5) Lafferty will fill in the ZAR role until he recovers from his surgery

Swap of RFAs -
Buffalo has a surplus of D and could use a guy like McCann.
BUF
  1. Bellerive, Jordy
  2. McCann, Jared [RFA Rights]
  3. 2020 5th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Pens add a bit as Buffalo would need a bit more incentive to part with a guy they paid a big price on.
But this fills the 2RD position and allows Marino to flow up and down the lineup.
2.
PIT
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
  2. 2020 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
One of Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton
CGY
  1. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Fair value for Murray
Not worth a 1st imo. A 2nd + prospect/later pick is more than enough

I like the Montour move. Not enough change to the roster though. I think the pens will get a lot more for Murray than people are expecting. A late 1st and an nhl ready prospect. You are seeing in these playoffs how important good goaltending is. Of the teams still in the playoffs only philly and tampa have had consistent goalies. Murray is still regarded as an upper level goalie by gms.

Why would we need to get an RD, Marino should never get less than 20 mins/night, and Montour is certainly not a guy who can really challenge him for that, and it's really not worth it to pay a 3RD ~4 mil with everything else we need

I'd do McCann for Miller but I really don't think Montour brings what they need and is going to cost more

Buffalo outbid Pittsburgh for Montour only a year ago. I wouldn’t be that surprised if they were still interested.

I'm sure they're interested, I just don't think the would be in exchange for McCann. His value hasn't gone up since a year ago, it's gone down
