Description
This 2020-21 Canucks roster is salary cap compliant and includes most of the club's UFAs and RFAs on ideal contracts. However, to be salary cap compliant the team can trade Jordie Benn, Brandon Sutter, and Troy Stetcher. The trades that are proposed are plausible, however Brandon Sutter has a modified-NTC that allows him to reject trades to 15 teams, which makes trading him more difficult.

Loui Eriksson and/or Antoine Roussel can be buried in the minors to receive a small amount of extra cap relief. If players who have been buried in the minors are recalled on an emergency basis, the Canucks can also gain additional cap relief on a temporary basis during the 2020-21 season.

To retain Chris Tanev, Tyler Toffoli, and Jacob Markstrom on ideal AAV and term, the Canucks will need to offer NMC and/or NTC to these players. This means that the Canucks will commit to keeping Markstrom over Demko in the expansion draft and can trade Demko to recoup picks in the 2020 draft, or to move out dead contracts.

Notes:
The Canucks have 5 notable UFAs that they can attempt to re-sign:
- Jacob Markstrom
- Tyler Toffoli
- Chris Tanev
- Josh Leivo
- Oscar Fantenburg

The Cancuks have 5 notable RFAs that they can attempt to re-sign:
- Jake Virtanen
- Troy Stetcher
- Adam Gaudette
- Tyler Motte
- Zach MacEwen

The Canucks will lose 1 of the following to the Seattle Kraken expansion draft at the end of the 2020-21 season:
- Thatcher Demko
- Troy Stetcher
- Tyler Motte
- Zack MacEwen
- Kole Lind

Potential Demko trade partners who have good RD prospects (A weakness for the Canucks prospect pool) that are exempt from the Seattle expansion draft:
- Carolina Hurricanes: Joey Keane
- Colorado Avalanche: Connor Timmins, Andrew Helleson
- Chicago Blackhawks: Ian Mitchell
- Minnesota Wild: Filip Johansson
- Ottawa Senators: Jacob Bernard-Docker, Lassi Thomson

Would a 3rd round pick be more palatable for Wings fans?

Conditional at best..nothing against stecher but he's kinda just decent not elite & we need kids to develop..just not a great fit..unless it's an elite skilled D or prospect

I don’t see many takers on any of your proposed deals, Colorado has already can out and said there not making any changes in net for next yr

The UFA you resigned look to be fair market value

He’s the deal look ahead till the following offseason he have only 13 players signed and a little over 22 mil in cap space, Pettersson and Hugh’s are going to take up 18 mil of that leaving u 4 mil to sign 7 players to give you a 22 man roster

And this yr all falls apart when Ferland his healthy enough to play leaving you - 3 mil cap wise.

I think the problem is more that the only position the Red Wings are solid at is RHD (Hronek, Seider, Lindstrom, Tuomisto, etc) so if we trade one of our higher picks (2nds/3rds) it will probably be for a position of need.
