im not worried about Staal at 2C and McCabe is worth a lot more than 2 3rds. Especially when youre taking on a boat anchor even with retained salary, which doesnt work for NY. Thats a clear downgrade when you could just move Bryson for that 3rd

I think the numbers on the offer sheet dont make sense. The aav is too low for cirelli to bother signing it, and the compensation because its over 7 years is too high. Like tampa is the only one that benefits here. I dont have the tiers at my finger tips, but i would suggest 5 years at more money. Then buffalo pays less to acquire, cirelli gets paid more, cirelli hits ufa earlier, and tampa gets probably the same or a little less.

I think he figures if we take on Staal’s contract you’ll give us our 3rd next year plus throw in another 3rd for taking on the contract so we can offer sheet Cirelli. Which would be a smart thing for us to do imo. Cirelli’s is one of the best defensive Centers in the NHL. And the we need that in Buffalo. Plus he’s scored some big goals this year. That being said I wouldn’t take in Staals contract. I’d just want my 3rd back for McCabe lol

Compensation is based on the AAV of the contract a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are compensation for 6.5-8.7 mil a year. It’s 2 1sts, a 2nd, and 3rd for 8.7-10.9. Cirelli isn’t worth that much money. I’d think his value falls into the 6-7 mil a year range
