Hjalmarsson would be a great acquisition for the Jets in exchange for Trouba. And to rid themselves of the Kruger overpayment would be great for the Hawks. I would do this trade in a heartbeat! 6x6 may be too much at this point tho. Trouba might be quite a player at some point but he is very young and a bit unproven at this stage. If he truly wants out for playing reasons and not paying reasons, $4.5-5.0M should be sufficient for 4 years or so. I would not include another first rounder to Winnipeg, tho, especially when Chicago hosts the draft next year. Trouba and a third for the Swedes would be more than adequate. Don't wait on this one, Bowman!!

Trading 2 very good assets for one and only getting $1,000,000 in cap relief? That is useless to the Hawks and the exact opposite of what they need to do. They need to drop big contracts and acquire more players will lighter contracts.

I kind of agree here. I know Hjalmarsson is no Doughty but he is no slouch either. Kruger is by far not worth his contract but he still has value and can be traded for picks. Plus losing yet another 1st rounder. WPG would easily take this trade but if I were Chicago, I'd want to make absolutely sure this makes sense long term. Technically speaking the team got worse after this trade.

Just curious, who do they trade then? Sharp and his $5.9M hit was sent packing along with Johns in a trade that did nothing for Chicago. Ultimately, Pittsburgh wound up being the beneficiary! Seabrook was the real winner, signing his retirement deal shortly thereafter. You know, the opposite of what they need to do. The question might be is a trade of a "big" ever going to favor Chicago, short and long term? Can they win with the same core group as they all get older (and fatter in the wallet)? Could playing a RHD on the right side on all three lines (and vice versa) allow for better north-south play? What impact of losing both Hjalmarsson and Kruger have on the PK as well as other areas chemistry-wise? Or can they be replaced without that much loss?

Trouba obviously wants out. He desires a bigger role wherever he plays. What might his actually salary demands be as a young guy just coming off his ELC? He may want 6x6 or whatever yet is he that much of an impact player (as in Eckblad's case)?
