Description
Different view on smaller moves that creates more cap space while adding size and grit to the team. What Leafs created team would be complete w/o a Petro signing for all of our cap space!! With an ext of 8x6.75!!

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Greenway, Jordan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Leafs may need to add a high risk/reward prospect of mid round pick.
MIN
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
I believe this address the needs of both team. Min gets a center that has offensive upside, and the leafs get a big body forward that has the potential to be a solid pwr forward.
2.
TOR
  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. 2020 4th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Before ppl start saying now to this deal..remember Crouse was traded for two 3rd round picks w/ conditions. Which one was met and turned into a 2nd.
ARI
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
This a deal that works for both teams. Azi gets a high 2nd pick, and the leafs get a big body that might turn into a middle 6 forward.
3.
TOR
  1. Grubauer, Philipp ($1,650,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I think Col retaining 50% evens out the deal where they get an upgrade, and the Leafs get cap savings.
COL
  1. Andersen, Frederik
  2. 2020 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Both goalies only have 1 year left on their deals.
4.
TOR
  1. Lemieux, Brendan [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I think this is a decent trade for both team. NYR buy low on Johnsson, and if he comes back strong and scores 20 its a huge win.
NYR
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. 2020 6th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Leafs get a pest of a player, and reasonable mid round pick and much needed cap space for a player they are selling low on.

Great! So petro fixes the defence. Now how are you going to re-sign Hyman, Rielly, Sandin, Liljegren, and find a goalie all within the next 2 years?

By signing petro, we ruin the long term outlook of the team.

I mean i think the Rangers accept but i think BL is the least likely RFA for the Rangers to move and Dubas seems to think he can get the same package for AJ he got for KK and there just arent that many other GMJR's out there.

It is a tough call, how long do they wait to be really competitive? A few years? Small window with the big guns needing another (ugh) contract.

Hyman, unfortunately, probably won't be resigned. Unless Sandin makes a massive jump, his contract won't break the bank. Liljegren hasn't played too much, so his contract situation is similar to Sandin. Hopefully Woll makes some strides within the next couple years, then his contract won't break the bank either. The only real uncertainty is Reilly, which I am sure they would do whatever it takes to make room for him.

Going to be an interesting couple of years, that's for sure.

Rangers decline due to comparative cap hits and the fact that they'll have 3 LW's who are better than Johnsson next season

if they dont resign hyman, who has stated he wants under 4mil, would be a mistake. 20g on a contract like that is a steal for toronto
