Description
Chiarot taken by Seattle

Alzner bought out

Armia couldn't resign at similar $ than Lehkonen

Bergevin offers Tatar a deal similar to Nyquist or Zuccarello

KK has a good year and receives a bridge deal

Problem : in 2022 Romanov, Suzuki, Primeau & Evans are RFA with 7,5m left.

Let's say Suzuki receives a bridge at 3,75m & Romanov, Primeau & Evans get the 3,75m left, that's a 20/23 men roster at full cap.

Solution : don't resign Tatar and resign Armia at 3.5 instead (+1,7m, enough for 22 men roster) or trade Byron. Or don't resign Tatar and Armia : 12.75m left for Romanov, Suzuki, Primeau & Evans + 3 roster players is enough.

Remark : Unsure about LD (yes prospects are on their way, but prospects equal incertainty too)

Looks like you will certainly have problems signing Suzuki and Romanov the next year

Who on earth are we protecting that Seattle would be able to pick Chiarot?

Edmundson but I simply had in mind that it made no difference cause they had same AAV but, in fact, it really matters for 2022 cause we would had 3,5m freed (Chiarot contract would be over). Thanks for pointing out

I read the team explanation like this lol:

I have a couple thoughts:
- If Domi is resigned, I think one of Tatar or Danault have to go. Poehling could still potentially replace Danault in the future and he would cost almost nothing on the cap.
- If Gallagher wants $6M+ I hope MTL trades him. With Caufield coming, Armia to resign, Ylonen in the system (4 goals in 4 preseason games in Liiga i read today), MTL cannot afford to overpay for a player who's game is only going to deteriorate as he ages. I hope we keep him, but $6.5 × 5 yrs is a good contract to walk away from.
- Lehkonen projection seems to be on the high end unless he is going to break out this year. He signed a $2.4M bridge and has still not shown any progression since his rookie season, if anything he's regressed. I think that bridge was signed with the expectation that he would elevate his game, similarly to Armia, and that hasn't happened yet.
- On LD prospects; Romanov, Mete, Norlinder, Harris, Struble, Fairbrother, and more to come in this draft likely, I'm sure at least 2 of these players will be top 4 defenseman, 5 are currently projected as NHL defenseman at the least.
