Description
A lot of the SOIR/LTIR players are insured at 80% of their salary. I couldn't find any reports that Brandon Dubinsky was at $5.85 MIL. Anyone here know??

Out his $4.25 MIL final year of his contract David Savard is owed $4.0 MIL in cash this year. I thought his NON flashy defensive style might complement Rielly this season and free up almost $10 MIL for the Blue Jackets who I assumed as still very cash poor.

Both contracts are finished this season giving Dubas an opportunity to re-sign Hyman if he wanted

2.
TOR
  1. Dubinsky, Brandon
  2. Savard, David
Additional Details:
*With CLB depth at RHD this shouldn't hurt them skill-wise but will save them almost $10 MIL which is significant to a small market team.

Dubinsky wouldn't even have to move his young family if he didn't want to uproot them.
CBJ
  1. 2020 4th round pick (VGK)
3.
TOR
  1. Cernak, Erik [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
*After seeing Cernak's stats on paper I was a bit disappointed watching him over these playoffs in how limited he was creatively and offensively. He is big and defensively minded which would is what the Leafs need. I was just hoping to see more balance.
TBL
  1. Abramov, Mikhail
  2. Liljegren, Timothy
Additional Details:
*Kind of hurts giving up Liljegren as I feel he is more well rounded than Cernak but we need size and defence on the Leafs at this point so this is the sacrifice.

Not sure if the Leafs needed to add so I reluctantly included Abramov.
4.
TOR
  1. Merzlikins, Elvis
Additional Details:
* I wondered if adding Andersen and his $1 MIL owed would be enticing to CLB for the younger $4 MIL 2 year contract of Elvis Merzlikins... but I am more than happy with Andersen so if CLB fans freakout over a deal like that then I don't really care either way. Just trying to use the Leafs financial might to help AND take advantage of the smaller market teams.

Dubinsky is insured at 100%, per Frank Seravalli of TSN. So there's no incentive for Columbus to trade him, other than avoiding LTIR. Elvis isn't going anywhere; Korpi is the only goalie we're likely consider moving, and only as part of a deal that returns a true top-6 F to Columbus. We aren't giving up Savard to shed Dubi, either. You get a D-, because you tried, but boy howdy was it bad.

Yeah that was a miss with the Columbus trade. Too much to give up for Cernak as well. Abramov looks like the real deal and Liljegren is going to be needed in a year or two. Would prefer a cheap, short-term UFA signing to that.

Yeah, trying to get creative after being tired of seeing all the Petro deals. Thanks for the feedback. If Dubi is insured than it wouldn't be close...like not even in the same galaxy close. Oh well.

This is one of the three major CBJ misconceptions on this site. The other two are:

1. "Josh Anderson scored just one goal in 19-20, he sucks!" (He had a shoulder injury all year from the Boston playoff series in 18-19. He's fully healthy now.)
2. "The Blue Jackets are gonna lose one of Elvis and Korpi to Seattle in the expansion draft!" (Elvis is exempt, so we can keep both and expose Kivlenieks, which may be the plan.)

I am hoping that the Leafs will draft Schneider who should be ready to step in when Holl's contract is up. Liljegren is not as hopeless to me as I seem some Leaf fans make him out to be. I have seen some stats and reports on Abramov and he does indeed look like he could quite possibly play in the NHL.

Just trying to fill out the Leafs defence without forcing a ridiculous contract of a St Louis UFA dman
