Description
I think the defence can be pretty solid if everybody plays up to their abilities.

Trades
BUF
  1. Goligoski, Alex
Additional Details:
The Sabres get a solid veteran LHD in Goligoski who can play both the rightside, and leftside. He's got a lot of experience in the NHL, can bring leadership and a good two way game to the Sabres blue line. He had a rough postseason against Colorado for the Yotes, but his regular season was actually very good. Analytically his numbers were solid, and on both offence and defence he produced solid numbers. He's not a flashy move but he can be a stop gap for this club to allow younger players like Samuelsson and Johnson to develop.
ARI
  1. Miller, Colin
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
For the Yotes they're looking at getting rid of more money for their players, and Goligoski has been a prime player for them to lose. Miller is a mediocre to bad at times 3rd pair D, hence why Buffalo gives up a 2nd in this deal, but maybe he can bounce back in Arizona and they could eventually flip him for a 3rd rounder in a year or so.

Yes. That is pretty fair. Probably just a 3rd, though, not a 2nd, because of the difference in term remaining and age.

If Ari wants to save even more money, they can flip Miller to a couple of teams pretty easily.

Good trade fort Arizona. They downgrade but are saving the money they want to. And Goligoski is older than most of us likely realize. He was the main piece in the Neal trade way back when with Niskanen essentially a throw in.

Wow how times have changed...

Yeah he is 35 years old, but he's still playing at a solid second pair level (at least beside Chychrun, so maybe he'll be a little less good in BUF) and I think with all the youngish inexperienced D that Buffalo has, he could be a great leader for the club.

It just depends how much he has left in the tank. I haven't watched much zona of late. Interesting trade for sure
