Description
Removing the contracts on the team that we should never have signed in the first place and were head scratchers even the time we signed them. Guys like Eriksson and Ferland definitely did have ways where you could justify them during the time signed for example but Beagle on the other hand didn’t make sense when we already had Sutter, and signed Roussel in the same offseason, so we essentially signed 3M x 4 for an above average aging fourth line center, while signing another bottom 6 guy for 3Mx4 along with it with clauses. Myers is just ridiculously overpaid and has way too much term for his age, I’m sorry this contract is awful and inexcusable, never once liked that deal. Every other bad contract imo could have had a decent justification for but Beagle and Myers were the ones that didn’t ever make sense. That extra 9M we could have used to re-sign Toffoli, Stecher and Tanev, which makes our team legit look like a playoff team. Benning has done really well with building the core of Pettersson, Miller, Horvat , Boeser and Hughes, but he has really shot himself in the foot signing those unnecessary contracts which obstructs us from complimenting our core with more good players.

The Tanev deal is debatable if we should re-sign in a world where we could have the money to re-sign him, I do think we could have got him around 4.3Mx4 which looks a bit better.

Beagle's the only guy who's won championships in all three current North American hockey leagues. Ever. He helps get the puck out of his own zone, so the skill guys don't have to. That's it. That's his game. Faceoffs and breakouts, with a bit of penalty killing thrown in.

Myers is very tall. Almost as tall as a Hedman or a Chara, or some shorter basketball players. If he ever starts playing like Chara or Hedman, he'd be underpaid.

Pretty safe to say he won't be playing like those Norris trophy winners. Likely just gets worse each yr. The contract will be similar to Eriksson's in terms of hurting the team soon.
