Description

NJD gets K.Letang and a 2nd round pick. Letang’s 7.25M and Subban’s 9M both come off their books in 2 years. That fits NJD timeline and gives them the cap space when they need it. Or they have an Asset in Letang they can move for pieces that better fit their timeline.
NJD-retains 1.75M of Zajac for the 1 year.

WPJ gets 4 young NHL ready, all-star caliber prospects. . And a 1st round pick.
WPJ-retains 750k on Laine for 1year and 1M on N.Pionk for 1 year.

Pens get Laine(hopefully signed to an extension), N.Pionk(free agent after this year), and T.Zajac(FA after this year). Both come off their books next year so Laine can be signed to an 8.5M-5year extension. And still money left over to extend Marino and a FA to replace Letang.

Maybe NJD get the 1st round pick and WPJ get the 2nd rounder. That would probably make more sense!!

The Jets aren't rebuilding though... They'd want NHL level assets from the get go. And I can't see them retaining salary either...

not even worth it.
His salary cap hit alone makes him not worth it.
This team doesn't have a problem with goal scorers. It has 4 legit threats in the top 4 in Malkn, Zucker, Crosby and Jake. You add Rust and Kap who are coming into their own and their top 6 isn't the issue.
It's depth that is the problem and 3rd pairing defense.
This doesn't really fix any of that.

It doesn't necessarily always need to fix problems, if it boosts the team in the aggregate then awesome, augmenting the goalscoring can offset depth nicely

Lowkey expecting they'd want Marino over Pettersson.

Not that the package in itself is that enticing, because it makes them significantly weaker as a team for now.
