Description
Flames fans won’t love giving Monahan + multiple 1st rounders, but I think this trade works out for both teams both this year and +3 years from now.

For CGY, the extra cap space only exists this season, since Brady will need a $7M x 3 years extension next year. But that gives CGY the option to add a guy like Hoffman on a 1-year deal.
For OTT, Monahan makes a great 2C option behind Stuzle (when he becomes a 1C). Monahan is a proven 25-30G and 60-70 point player, still young, and comes with term. This trade also gives OTT some more assets to potentially pursue a guy like Cirelli to further bolster the middle of the ice.

Ottawa is going to pass. Brady is untouchable to them

Looks like the Flames need a play making centre rather than Brady. Ottawa probably wants Brady also. IMO both brothers go the UFA in a short of time as they can and eventually play together on a USA team...maybe St Louis.

Not op but if he was available would Zibinajad work? What would flames have to give up?

As awesome as Brady is, the Flames don’t need any more left shot wingers. And the Flames centre depth is mediocre WITH Monahan, and the prospect pool is meh as well. So this doesn’t really make all that much sense for Calgary, besides the fact that Brady is untouchable for Ottawa.

The last thing the Flames need is more playmakers, they need a guy who puts the puck in the net no matter what, so at least Brady fits in that sense, but having 5 left shot wingers that should be in the top 6 doesn’t make much sense. And I don’t buy that the Tkachuks (nor Gaudreau for that matter...) are guaranteed to scamper off to the US as soon as possible, both are probably going to be captains soon (Matthew for sure, Brady 50/50 on whether it’s him or Chabot) and they’ll get whatever contract they want from the teams they’re on now. Besides, why would a team pay the likely 17mil+ it would cost to get them as UFAs when they both play the same position, and that position isn't centre?
sensibleguy liked this.

Trouble with Zig if you would have to give up the same in talent and cap (maybe more) to acquire so it sort defeats the purpose. Then Zig is a UFA in two years....really doesn't put the Flames over the top.
