I think it was clear at the start of this season they were going to have to push their cap issues to next year.
They did that. The only question was how were they going to do it. People trying to solve the cap this year were just kidding themselves. Not in this market.
A few of us tried pushing it other ways but I don't think anyone really expected the LTIR of jet ski riding Kucherov. It smells fishy but it is what it is.
Something tells me next year looks something like McDonagh, Palat, and a 1st to seattle. I wouldn't be expecting Seattle to take on 2 long term high salary contracts. Palat will be the guy.

Here we go again everybody thinks everybody’s going to make Tampa Bay bleed through the nose and it never happens

The pic is going to be Johnson they’re going to get a second or fourth and say been Thomas very similar to the deal that the lightning and the Vegas golden knights came for that one was Jason Garrison a second or fourth and a two-year earlier seventh round draft pick named Nikita Gusev They were in a very similar salary cap hell at the Vegas year to settle play that one

dude after all the "[player] won't waive for [insert jurisdiction here] because of their income tax" stuff, and then today's trade, I would just lay low for a bit

none of that is bleeding through the nose.
McDonagh will be 32 with 5 years at an almost 7 mil cap hit. There are more bad years there than good.
Palat is ok, he's not great, he's ok. He hasn't broke 20 goals in 6 seasons. The reason he's added is they need to move him to clear space. Much like they will McDonagh as they already have his replacement.

This is a fair deal on both sides. Future cap issues gone, over paid winger with 1 year left gone. Meanwhile, cap issues solved. TB is gonna need to clear cap while they can, they have to sign Point the year after.
