Description
The Oilers may have found some steady pairings that have really worked well the last 4 or 5 games here. When Bear is healthy he still has to be in. He's one of their top 3 defensemen. So who slides to the left side if you keep in all 4 RHD, which I think is a must. I would go:
Nurse Barrie - They work well together and provide an offensive boost.
Lagesson Larsson - Larsson has steadied playing with Lagesson. I think that has to do with Larsson having to be the more assertive guy with rookie Lagesson. This has been a really solid shut down pair. Lagesson has been impressive. He's been on for only ONE goal against 5v5...
Bear Bouchard - this is the interesting one. Someone has to slide over to the left. I think both of them are capable of it but I would leave Bouchard on the right because he is the better puck mover and makes sense to have him on the side he can be most effective at it.

Let me know your thoughts. Agree with this? Disagree? Oilers are looking good.

I really hadn't thought of that option yet, But I think it would be a great option. Barrie-Nurse can have a couple of chaotic moments each game when they both try to do too much at the same time, but overall quite effective, at least while Nurse is playing so we'll. If Bear can handle the left side, I agree he may complement Bouch well. And absolutely don't want to take Laggs and Larsson apart, they shut everything down so we'll.

I don't see Bear playing the off side. I think that a healthy Bear puts Larsson on the trade block.

The other option is they could go 11 and 7 and rotate the D in a way that Bear could work his way back slowly.

I disagree with this. Yea Larsson has had some tough moments this year but it's key for the Oilers success that he plays well and with Lagesson he has improved quite a bit. If that pair can become a dependent shutdown pair on on most nights, thats way more valuable than getting a 3rd round pick back or whatever the return would be.

Plus depth is key this season. If there's an injury on the right side, then you are more able to handle it.

I’m not sure about bear on the left side if making a move like that I’d lean towards a veteran try larsson first with bouchard if that proves problematic then try Barrie on left side of larsson less of a fan of that idea but either case try moving a veteran first more overall experience and try not to complicate a young players progress if possible. Best bet might just be a rotation needing to sit one of the right shots which is actually a good situation to be in.
