Description
Gretzky 1996 trade: Craig Johnson (great NCAA player), Patrice Tardif (great NCAA player) and Roman Vopat (great juniors player), plus a 1997 1st and 1996 5th

Crosby trade: Swayman (great NCAA player, Hobey Baker finalist), Bjork (real good NCAA player), and Studnicka (real solid juniors player), plus the 2021 1st and 2022 5th

I think on paper the Gretzky trade at the time was more appealing, it didn't work out so well for the Kings. At the same time Gretzky was a rental so the price was a little cheaper. I think the '96 trade is a better comparable than the '88 trade because Crosby is at a similar stage in his career of the '96 trade. So the value might be a little bit short (by maybe a couple picks or another prospect and a pick). , one because goalies (Swayman) dont carry as much value in trades and looking at how the players performed before entering the NHL in the Gretzky trade but in reality I think it becomes a better trade than what resulted for the Kings in the '96 Gretzky trade. Lastly if we want to include successful collegiate players Curtis Hall (a 2020 Hobey Baker nominee) could replace Swayman or be added.

Just for fun I think the '88 trade comparable would be something like DeBrusk, Studnicka and 3 1st round picks. I also could see this as something that's more realistic.

I know the Crosby trade mocks have been spammed and argued over but I didn't see anyone take the Gretzky trade approaches to it. So I figured what the heck, lets just try it out. I'm sure other teams could come up with more appealing offers based on the reasoning that backed my idea but this is probably the most comparable for the Bruins.

Yeah that's fine, I was just trying something out, I dont think either side would like this trade. and I think there's much better out there for the pens to get if they were to actually shop Crosby

A big reason is you cant send money in trades. They also got back 15 million, which accounting for inflation, would be 33 million dollars. So if you can find a way to account for that 33 million dollars in value, go for it. Otherwise, its not really worth trying to make a comparison

I didn't even think about that, If that's what it would take I wish I had the money to write Mario a 33 million dollar check to get this bad boy done right now

I think Bjork needs to be debrusk and its not a horrible package. The thing is if he does go up for auction and teams have better young players to move it probably wouldnt be the package pitts wants.
