Description
Fleury has been actually playing pretty well lately, and hopefully his trade value will continue to recover a bit for however long Murray is out. In the meantime, pick up Halak as a backup then trade Fleury once Murray is healthy and have Halak as backup.

Obviously this is unlikely for a number of reasons. 1. Some other team may claim him first. 2. Cap compliance issues regarding bringing his contract on board. 3. Whether JR is ready to make a move regarding goaltending.

But hey, a fan could dream right?

Halak is a very interesting situation that PIT and their fans should watch very carefully. Going to waivers probably meant that NYI couldn't get anything in return...otherwise they would have.

    Halak
    Games Played 21 SV% .904 GAA 3.23 Goals Against 64

    Marc Andre Fleury
    Games Played 23 SV% .908 GAA 3.13 Goals Against 64

I get that they're not the same EXACT player, but maybe pump the breaks on expected return?

That's why I prefaced this by saying it was kind of an unlikely "best case scenario" type situation due to all the variables. I agree with you that my return is probably higher than they could realistically expect but it's not totally unfathomable that Pittsburgh could get that for a goalie that until this year was considered to be a generally solid player.

I hear ya. Anyone can create their dream team and that's fine. I'm truly not trying to prevent anyone from having fun. It's just that we have new information now that at the very least helps set the bar for MAF's value is. He has a better track record than Halak, but his cap his is higher and longer...at best they cancel out...and those numbers are damn near identical this year and we now know those numbers won't get you a 7th rounder. Not this post at all, but this site has multiple trades for trouba or Hamilton...wtf...might as well trade for McDavid. Again, not trying to bust anyone's dream teams Go for it. It just seems like there is a high percentage of VERY unrealistic trades for MAF.

Dont mind trying to trade Fleury if you can snag Halak but WPG proabably isnt the best location as they have Helleybuck. Id be looking at Dallas as a destination for Fleury as their goalies arent able to carry them
