Description
Defense already isn't good. May as well let the young talent come in and develop so there is a future. No more band-aid UFA vet signings like Forbort and Benn. Let's also be realistic, Jets will not land top tier UFA like Hamilton, and will not give up the assets for Jones.

Why on earth would we give Seattle a 3rd to select DeMelo? I don't think there is any doubt that DeMelo is going to be protected.

I'd be fine with that and put demelo on third pairing with samberg. I would hope a side deal is made to keep Stanley then, which likely means Apple is gone. If that happens, I guess a player like Ves can step up and Perreault can play fourth line.

That might actually turn out better.... lol

I don’t really understand what people see in DeMelos game to make them think he shouldn’t be protected on this team lol

I definitely have a feeling Appleton will be gone unfortunately if there is no side deal made. I was thinking something like sending Seattle a 2nd rounder to select Sami Niku?

I honestly think you have to look back the Vags expansion and see how the side deals worked for teams.
I think whoever the Jets end up losing (Stanley, Appleton, DeMelo), they just have to deal with it and think that someone else can come in and play those roles.
I think DeMelo should be protected.
If you lose Appleton, I think Vesalainen showed that he is close and could be a decent fill in there. Maybe Harkins could fill in there too, who knows.
If you lose Stanley, I think Samberg is close to being a guy that can be a 3LD. While he's not as big as Stanley, I think he could do a lot of the things that Stanley can do (personally, watching Samberg play for the Moose, I think he will be better than Stanley).
After listening to Chevy in his end of season presser, I don't think he's particularly interested in just firing away draft picks. They like their scouting team and I think unless the deal is a no brainer win for the Jets, they'll keep a lot of their draft picks.
