Description
Kerfoot trade

Kerfoot has a $1,950,000 signing bonus that would be paid by Toronto, so if Ottawa retains 50%, the results are;
Toronto gets Tierney for $1.75MM AAV and $4.05MM cash paid
Ottawa gets Kerfoot for $5.25 AAV and $2.85MM cash paid

Toronto gets $1.75MM lower cap while paying an extra $1.35MM in pay
Ottawa saves $1.35MM in pay while taking on an extra $1.75MM in cap

It's an Ottawa (Melnyk) thing

=====

Seattle takes a goalie prospect

JBD and Pinto start the season in Belleville

Wennberg, incentive raise for one season. Safer to keep Wennberg focused on his next contract, placeholder for Pinto

Reilly, two year contract with a 33% raise, good chemistry with Zub

Brady's contract was difficult to determine. I originally thought Brady should receive what Chabot received, but I was comparing a #1D with a top6 winger. I like Brady, I think he should be Captain, but I asked myself, how much extra pay does being Captain get? None, of course. He will eventually be passed by Stützle on the depth chart, but will still deserve to be paid accordingly.

I then thought about PLD, who, in his final ELC season, was a year older...
PLD 18-31-49 in 70 games (0.70 ppg)
Brady 17-18-36 in 56 games (0.64 ppg)

Using the $5MM x 2, and the final season $6.65MM of PLD's contract, I considered this for Brady for eight seasons

$3.35MM
$6.65MM
$7MM
$7MM
$7MM
$8MM
$8MM
$8MM

$55MM over 8 seasons is an AAV of $6.875MM, which is why I finally settled on $7MM X 8

I understand JBD starting in Belleville but Pinto showed his more than capable to hold a middle 6 pivot spot. I'd much rather see him on that third line than Kerfoot. Between White, Wennberg, Pinto, Paul and Bishop we have MORE than enough centers. Let Seattle take Tierney.

Like the numbers for Tkachuk and Batherson. I would not sign Amadio. He did nothing to earn a spot. Bishop and Kelly looked far better.

I like the Wennberg addition, but Pinto probably makes the team right away, trade Tierney for a pick or just let Seattle take him. I also prefer Bishop over Amadio although we might as well still qualify Amadio and keep him for AHL depth. I don’t think bringing Rielly back is a huge need, and someone probably gives him 3mil AAV with some term and we need at most 1 year of him (although I’m pretty satisfied with the Brannstrom-Zub 2nd pair and Mete-Zaitsev on the 3rd, I’d be looking for a 1 year rental to play with Chabot).

I think Pinto is going to be pretty good, but he only played 12 games, and his toi was 10th among forwards in the games he played in. You guys might be right, I just went the cautious route starting the season in Belleville. Either Pinto and/or JBD could push their way up sooner rather than later even in my cautious scenario. Another reason Wennberg and Amadio only got 1 year contracts...

My reasoning on the Bishop versus Amadio versus Kelly. Kelly got one game, 7:32 of ice time. Seemed like an experiment to see how he fared more than a cup of coffee, just my opinion. Bishop lost his spot to Amadio, and Bishop has since been signed to a 2-way contract. Teams are holding off signing some players until after the expansion draft. Whether Amadio gets a 1-way or 2-way contract will be telling. You guys might be right, we'll know soon enough.

The Kerfoot trade was just my Melnyk tweak, and even though it makes sense for both teams. I'm just having fun with that trade.

Reilly may have earned himself better offers, but I didn't want to do another Graves trade, and I wanted Mete at 7D.

Just remember, regardless of how any of us feel, the team likes Zaitsev, and moving him to the 3rd pair ignores the reality of the situation. It is what it is, some things we just can't change.

Thx for the replies
