besides the fact im unsure if any team actually takes those trades, im unsure if they even make the team better frankly.

marner besides the chemistry with matthews, had 67 points and was +21

bratt domi aand compher combined had 72 and were -14

kerfoot and rielly and holl had 78 and were a +29 combined compared to Gaudreau and Subbans 68 points and -11

so you are trading(besides the chemistry between the players) a combined 145 points and a +50

for 140 points and -25

now plus minus isnt a great stat but if i was just gonna present these numbers to you you would pick the group at +50 every time.

Liljegren is gonna play games with the leafs this season, real important games. Engvall and Soupy while not great players are better than subban both as individuals and as a group

Soupy had 17 points played the PK and was a +5
Engvall had 12 points and was a +2

Subban had 19 points and was a -16 this season he doesnt hit or fight anymore so he would literally be dead weight

Hell even just comparing him to the defensman being traded
Holl had 20 points and was a +16 and frankly looked really comfortable with muzzin
Subban had 19 points and was a -16

its 2 players who are on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of defense.

Comparing the plus minuses of players of rebuilding teams to players on the Leafs is stupid idea

i dont disagree with the sentiment, but when you are trading for a player, and giving up what is proposed to give up, you really need to consider every stat, those are the easiest to find.
and when they get to a certain number you have to start considering them to some degree.

If it was -4 to +3 its not important. But its the complete opposite directions.

especially when you combine all players on each side of all trades.

its night and day

They produce almost the same, but are way way way way way worse at keeping the puck out of their own net.

Like the stat exists for a reason.

Each player being given up is either as good or better than the player they are getting back, both in production and in the ability to not get scored on.
