Mattias Ekholm 75% retained. Nashville retains 50% for a 1st, 2nd and Dermott, and 3rd party team retains 25% for a 4th.

Similar structure to the Savard deal last deadline where Columbus got a 1st and 3rd from Tampa and Detroit a 4th for the retention as a third party.

Ekholm is better than Savard which is why Nashville would get a better return. Ekholm could potentially be extended and be a Rielly replacement next season if he takes something in the $5M-$6M range.

2022-2023 the Leafs blue line could look like this:

Additional Details:

Dermott could either be kept or flipped for more picks if NSH goes full rebuild mode. I think this fair value. 1st and 2nd plus a roster player that could be flipped for a 3rd IMO.
Nashville's net value from this trade could potentially be a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd for someone that likely walks in FA.

4th round pick goes to 3rd party team for salary retention.

Obviously a risk you take when trading for him. Hopefully he likes the City and the project the Leafs present him. Being a top 4 defenseman on a Championship contender surely has to be something that Ekholm would like. Hopefully his family would like Toronto as well. I think this could be a very smart move by Dubas.
