I think that's pretty good value. Hard to see SJS turning that down if they think Hertl won't re-sign.

I’d put conditions on the 1st (we need a 2LD and a 1RD still, and while Sanderson/JBD should fill those holes, they won’t be high end this year). Maybe top 10 protected. That said I’d be willing to pay more than this if he came with an extension, I’m just hesitant about trading 1sts as a team with piss-poor defense (for now) and… inconsistent goaltending, to put it mildly. Like I’d add Jarventie to this package if necessary to outbid other teams and he signed an extension. And I wouldn’t mind giving Hertl 8 years if we can get the cap hit lower (I think he’d want 9 on a 5 year term tbh, maybe he’d do that cap hit for 8 years).

Hertl is 28 in Nov, so the extension is basically years 29-33, I’d rather renegotiate those mid 30’s years, but that’s just me

The problem is that he'll demand more for 5 years though. He'll be worth 9mil until 33 (maybe more because Ottawa), but if we sign him until 36 though, we can get a discount on the AAV because he won't be worth it for the last 3 years most likely.

If Hertl wants $9MM, I'll pass
