I think the only way a move like this makes sense is if you use the cap savings to bring in one or two legitimate second line caliber players w the savings. We'd have to see what Toronto subsequently does from here

I was definitely leaving it open to interpretation as for what moves Toronto would want to make next, this trade specifically would free up about $7m or so in cap while providing I think solid replacements

Keller's highest point total similar to MMs lowest

Granted a huge situational disparity

But I can see the wisdom here

Vejmelka probably isn't an NHL goalie all told

I definitely think Keller bumps up to a PPG player in Toronto, which is obviously less than Mitch provides, but he’s also doing it for $4m less. Vejmelka is in there as a cheaper development option

They'll use a bare minimum $3M of those savings to give Campbell a raise, so that leaves about $4M to bring in another forward. One of Amirov/Robertson will presumably make the jump next year as well. I'd try and move some more money out to try and bring in someone like Palat from free agency. Maybe even take a look at Pavelski on a one-year deal or something.
