I agree it's a bit intriguing; let's what the Avs are giving up and getting:

Avs do give up a guy who could score 25-30 goals this season but may end up leaving after this year. They get a guy with a ton of size, has scored some goals and has 3 years left at $5.7M; a veteran who can play well in the bottom six but still has term and some good goalie depth. They'd also be taking on a lot of extra money so something else has to go out the door, probably someone like JTC to make the dollars work.

Outside of gaining some valuable goalie depth, I don' see why the Avs would take this deal - they need secondary scoring and while Mantha brings size they need, his finishing is clearly not what it once was so they'd be giving up a lot of goals and taking on more money and term for a guy that appears to be in decline. Hagelin is a strong two-way guy but doesn't play C which is also something of a need for the Avs. Intriguing or not, this doesn't improve the Avs enough for them to pull the trigger.

Avs absolutely don't have the cap space to do this anywhere close to it
