so you are saying you do that trade with DET for the #2 pick in the 2017 draft? Why not just type that? Also, no chance they do that deal, and why would you want Hischier so bad when your centers are set for the next five years?

No way would Detroit make that move if we get the 2nd and get Hischier no way are we moving him for Gardiner etc. Hischier is exactly what we need to start our rebuild here.

I agree that if Detroit wants to start a full blown rebuild then this is not a good trade for them. The problem is though, they are moving into a new arena next year and probably want to be competitive for a couple seasons because of that, this while not a good long term deal gives them a top 4 defenseman and some cap relief to spend on some help elsewhere.

The Leafs are not all that strong on the Left side, especially when JVR is moved or leaves, which is where I would envision him playing for a couple seasons, much like Nylander on RW. And when he is able to move to C, if he can make the transition, Kadri becomes expendable.
