so while doing this I found it really annoying how much bad money Holland brought in and when thinking realistically, barrie probably is the only moveable one and thats just cause of what he did last season and his ability to be a serviceable (albeit defensively flawed) RHD OFD for a team needing some offence on the blue line and a PP QB.
I'd think if there is an ideal time to move it him, it would be during the deadline as a piece to acquire a rental in whatever area of the ice. Oilers can get a depth d for cheap if needed or use their in-house solutions. But, for the purpose of this ACGM I'm not even going to TRY and speculate what could come in return and if that player/goalie could be resigned. So lets say barrie + whatever pick for a rental that doesn't re-sign.
Kassian was very irritating. He has qualities that have some value to NHL teams but, the money is brutal to work with. I initially thought about retaining 500k to get a deal done but had a hard time still finding a suitor. So sadly I think buying him out might be the only way to save and keep assets to make other more meaningful moves
With moving Nuge to 3C, Top line and 3rd line are set.
1st: Foegel Mcdavid Poolparty
3rd: Holloway Nuge Yamo
The problem now is that there is about 9.6mil to spend to acquire a 4th line depth, top6RW, and a #1 goalie...
Priority #1 is the NETMINDER so looking into FA there's: Campbell, Kuemper, Holtby, koski
Also some trade targets like: Jarry, Vanecek rights, grubauer?, varlamov. mrazek
I'm going with making a big move to get Jarry from what looks like a declining, aging Penguins team. Skinner will no doubt be at least a backup NY full-time(would prefer dealing smith but that's unrealistic as hell), Broberg is a top-quality future and solid draft capital.
Priority #2 is a TOP 6 RW. Issue is I don't see this problem being effectively addressed due to cap constraints. If the money can work, Rakell would an ideal FA signing. If can't afford that,I'd be very interested in val nichushkin as he is pretty young and a very strong defensively which would be welcomed in edmonton.
*UPDATE: Found the Money, Rakell it is (maybe a solid add at the deadline if holland can't get a way to add something decent + ducks fall to earth)*
Priority 3: is basically depth + B6 positions which will need to be filled with defensively minded players and a player that is capable of scoring the odd goal. Possibly a re-signing of Perlini?
*UPDATE: not much left for this area. Hoping the impending coaching change will have them not play tippet's idiotic B6 system*
The team is better, and deeper without selling absolutely everything valuable in the system (some rental buying room). Bad money like Keith, smith and dead space($2mil) will be out in place for some internal options. The key for this season contract wise would be to sign bouch early and for LONG TERM. I think this team is deep enough up front and has enough goaltending quality to outscore some of its impending defensive lapses to a much less agredious extent as this year. The biggest change will be that the forward group is more sound defensively and reliable. getting rid of a defensive disaster like barrie will help things improve greatly as well and upcoming system guys will allow for some key breathing room when keith and smith deals are up. The trades might not be 100% ofc but, I think the foundations are there more or less. This kind of team SHOULD STRIVE in the west.
There is no reason in the world the Pens would move Jarry. They have him for one more season at $3.5M. Not sure why people keep thinking we're sellers. Pens decline.

Youre telling me you wouldnt make this trade???????

I'd say if this year isn't going well this would be a good deadline deal for the pens. gives them a future defensive and goaltending pieces and high end draft capital. The oilers get the starter they've been searching for. for years. That why I made the price tag as high as it is for a goalie that has 1YL because jarry is a good, young goalie that the oilers could absolutely sign especially with his connections to edmonton in junior.
I think its a win-win given pitsburgh will probably be on the decline just cause of aging players. Plus it would allow for the pens to try and grab Campbell in FA cause they would have deep enough pockets for it, and he is looking like a guy that probably is better than jarry. Oilers just wouldn't be able to afford Campbell currently cause holland bundled the cap space he had.

have to pay a high price for a starting netminder that is young. has ties to edmonton so re-signing I think won't be an issue for Jarry at a reasonable price tag. Pens get some much needed building blocks to do a quick re-tool. If anything the price tag might be too high but, If I am going to guesstimate the price tag I'd rather start off overpricing and work down from there until a reasonable benchmark is hit.Broberg is the piece to sell though in edmonton for sure as the left side is packed up
