Description
This wouldn't shock me, but if Smith gets hurt one more time, combined with Varly for 1 more year, I can see this as Smith being "retired" but with LTIR relief due to not being able to play anymore(and nobody wanting him)... Doubt Edmonton gets past RD 2.. Having said that, wouldn't be opposed to the pick losses they'd give up...
But, for next season, you'd get a full grasp of what you have in Skinner, plus you can bring Konavalev up to play as well, and have Varly do with him what he did with Sorokin on the Island.. Plus this gives Edmonton options to play with a hopefully healthy Holloway on the 1st or 2nd line, Pupu signs another Bridge deal for short term cap relief waiting for both Sekera and Lucic's dead money to come off the books and add that to the bridge deal $$ for a longer term.. Plus Bouchard's deal and Keith's expiring after the following season will in many ways even itself out.. Keith signs maybe a 2 year $3.5m deal and Bouchard can sign maybe a 2 year bridge deal as well-waiting for Kassian's deal to come off the books, along with Neal's buyout money....
Start with McLeod and Blackwell(think he's gonna be a low key gem for roughly $1m) to play 3rd/4th line and flip flop when need be. Giving yourself just under $2m to accumulate until the TDL and have Lavoie be the 1st call up, or playing regularly on the 3rd line as well.. Giving some of your pretty much ready prospects some regular NHL mins to see if they're ready or not, and if not you can use some of the assets in trades to acquire needs by the deadline..
Wasn't counting on removing Varly's hit for the following season JIC neither Skinner nor Konavalev are ready to take the next step and he maybe needed for another season or 2 at a decent rate(say roughly $4mx2)....

If you're gonna do something to the goaltenders, do something to the defense as well

I did for the prev post, this is just a look at what they could be looking at going into next season.. Whether it be Niemalainen, or Broberg, think they're willing to give these kids somewhat sheltered minutes to continue to develop in the show so they can progress to the point they'd be a no brainer on the 2nd pairing with say Barrie while Keith slides to the bottom pairing...

Is Samorukov that good? I don’t think a Namestnikov deal would involve Detroit losing draft stock unless the prospect coming back is the real deal, so is Dmitri good enough to be that guy?

Yeah, had a rough first game, but he is pretty good, most def worth the Namestnikov deal.. I'd prefer not to deal him, but, they have a plethora of LHD prospects and needs in other areas...

He isn’t waiver exempt next year and our LHD pipeline is stacked. Although I like him I’d prefer a pick.
