Description

My guess on how the front office would prioritize our assets going into deadline.

I split up into five categories:

1. Available, on the block (LW) --- These are guys NJD are likely offering up or taking calls on. Not a ton here after Subban.

2. Available, for an upgrade (C) --- These are guys Fitzy would likely use to upgrade a position. Would likely be packaged with others (or picks) for a better asset. But NJD would not likely move them straight up for picks or prospects. Most of them are prospects themselves.

3. Available, for hockey trade (RW) --- These are guys I could see Devils moving in a hockey trade (i.e., in a deal for a similar player in age and contract but plays different position or provides different skill-set). They will have some value for some teams looking for very specific types of players. But not guys I'd expect NJD to be shopping around.

4. Not Available, part of our future plans (LD) --- These are guys who the Devils plan on being in lineup long-term and don't have any intention of moving unless they are floored with an offer. I also included all our goalie assets here as they shouldn't be trading any of them at this point.

5. Untouchable, forget it (RD) --- These guys will not be traded

A note on prospects --- I listed a number of prospects, most of them under "Available for upgrade" (C). But there were three unsigned players listed under "Not available" (LD) as well. While they have yet to earn "part of our future" tag, these three guys are all seeing their value rising quickly...thus NJD should not be trading them (Arseni Gritsyuk, Samu Salminen and Zakhar Bardakov).

A note on others --- all of the names listed in minors section are either AHLers or lesser prospects unlikely to draw attention. The most interesting guys here are probably Daniil Misyul, a left-handed d-man in KHL, and Jaromir Pytlik, a center playing in Czech league who has ironically been playing on a line with Jaromir Jagr.

Ty Smith could/should be in a Available for an upgrade (C).
I'm a fan but if you could do better you should. Gangbusters last year, but Will Butcher this one. Yeah I know Sophomore drought but he gets knocked around a lot and that wont change

I would move Zacha, Severson, Blackwood, Sharangovich, Wood, Smith, Salminen, Bardakov, Mukh, Schmid, Daws, Hischier all down a tier.

A team that's in 25th place and has been a bottom feeder for the better part of a decade simply cannot have 15+ unavailable / untouchable players in their system.

We would just likely use them in different types of trades.
I have 2/3 or our organization available...that is fairly wide open for business.

In the intro, I explained the prospects in the "not available" section. Its not that they are locked into future on par with Hughes, Bratt, etc.
It just doesn't make sense to trade them now since their values are rising.

I also explained the goalies too. (and should separate them)
We have started an ECHL goalie the last two games.
We shouldn't be moving any of them unless it brings a netminder back.

And we have six "untouchable" pieces.
Three prospects whose values are rising and it would be silly to trade them.
Three goaltenders we can't move since we have no goaltending!
One d-man with full NMC.
One important, but injuried player that we'd be lucky to get 20 cents on the dollar until he plays again.
And five truly "not available" pieces
