Description
I know allot of acgm's have Detroit paying Vegas for Martinez. I see things a little differently. Martinez still has value as a player. However from an age, injury status, contact price and term standpoint he has negative value to a team like Detroit. The Wings are still in a rebuild. Martinez is a 34 year old defenseman who is currently injured, having a down year and has 2 1/2 years left on his contract at 5.25 million a year. Vegas has to clear cap space and I don't feel Detroit should pay for the privilege. Yes Martinez is a serviceable or better player and a Michigan native but there are just to many cons in the there for me. I feel in order for Detroit to maximize the rebuild we need to make the most of every asset we have, cap space, draft picks, players, prospects and contracts all come into play. There will be several stop gap defensemen available in free agency. Detroit are not buyers but sellers at this point. Even though Martinez is most likely a player we can use, depending on his injury issues, we are selling cap space and should be paid to take Martinez.

I get that Detroit can take advantage of the cap situation in Vegas, but this is pushing it. They're cap strapped, but not enough to give up 2 of their LHD in a poor value deal. If Vegas is a candy bowl, there's a sign on it that says "Take One". Follow the rules or Kelly McCrimmon comes storming out of the house ordering you to leave.

Your logic here is totally flawed. Vegas is in no position to do something like this.

Its just not logical. Hague is Martinez replacement, he isn't going to be moving. Sure Vegas is gonna have to make concessions moving guys and finding cap but not this. Someone takes Martinez at a lower price before it gets this bad.

I went too far the other way intentionally. I think somewhere in the middle is more realistic.

I don't see Detroit paying a 2nd and more for him. One of the Vegas posters suggested a 4th for Martinez, that is more realistic.
