Description
Both of these are beaten to death but why not.

Hagel Trade

Hawks side:
With all of Kubalik, Kurashev, and the Cat, LW is the Blackhawks' strongest position IMO; While Hagel is an obviously useful player, they can afford to move him. In return they get 1) a 1st round pick,
2) a well-thought-of prospect, and 3) an RFA roster player who kills penalties to replace Hagel.

Leafs side:
Leafs get a slight, but noticeable upgrade over the Giraffe, who most importantly is cost controlled for the next two seasons. Better to think of him as Mikheyev's replacement next year than Engvall's
this year. Leafs window is now so move the pick, and have tonnes of nice prospects at center so losing one isn't that bad

Mayfield Trade

Isles side:
swap a 29 yr old UFA for a 25 yr old RFA, Dermott plays LD which NYI needs for next season, allows them more minutes for Dobson (who's clearly better then Mayfield at this point). Lou wouldn,t have
drafted Dermy if he didn't like him, so there's that too. 3rd rd. pick to boot.

Leafs side:
Get an upgrade over Holl at #2RD and fixing the only glaring issue on the leafs. Mayfield is signed for another season at a nice amount which is a plus. Dermott always gonna be suck under Rielly,
Muzzin, and probably Sandin so might as well do right by him.

So I wouldn't say they won't move Hagel but I'm sure they'd rather move kubalik before him. Hagel is signed to a team friendly deal and kubalik is a rfa this off-season making twice what Hagel makes. The QO might even have them thinking twice.

I admit I don't watch a ton of Hawks games but Kubalik has the higher ceiling, no? And they're not in a terrible cap situation.

Kub hit 30 goals as a rookie but fell off a bit last year and this year he's regressed even more. Hagel is 3 years younger and now putting up better numbers at half the cost. If they move kubalik maybe he rebounds.

I'll play the isles here and counter with Bellows and a 2nd for Nylander. Leafs swap a 23 year old RFA for a 25 year old UFA. Bellows gives them cap space which they need for next season. And Toronto also gets a 2nd round pick to boot.
Do you see how that logic while it technically makes sense doesn't equal a highway robbery of a trade?
