Changes on the horizon

Massively underperforming on his contract and has requested a trade. This move clears some immediate cap room for Boston, they can use at the deadline and gives them a more physical player for their bottom 6.

Hasn't been a great fit in Vancouver and likely a player Rutherford will move out. If DeBrusk isn't a fit and doesn't resign at a much more reasonable contract, Vancouver can just walk away from him in the off season.

Boeser is the best player in the deal and will fit very well with the NJ forward group. Fills a position of need and their window quite nicely.

Two young players at positions of need for Vancouver and a couple of useful picks. Vancouver adds speed, potential and cap room.

Miller is by all accounts their #1 target and fits their needs perfectly.

Unless Vancouver retains salary (and they likely don't want to) this is probably the maximum return. If retention is involved a commensurate 4th piece is required.

Could be any team looking for a bottom 6 penalty killer that plays at a high tempo.

Washington has been looking for a top 6 forward and has been scouting the Canucks. Garland can be massaged under the cap and has term on a good contract.

Vancouver primarily gets cap flexibility and the first. Leason is a big body with some potential and Hagelin can help with the penalty kill in the short term. Maybe a better prospect comes back in this trade (Iorio?), but unlikely.
