I find it odd everyone will be tough on Barrie because he’s having a down year for his standards and happily ship him out for pennies on the dollar then turn around and target a guy like hagel who is at peek value. If get into the habit of selling low buying high won’t stay in business long.

hagel has things going for him though. get 3 years of a top6 producer at a bargain contract and still have rfa rights plus kick the goalie can down the road to a better market for a buyer (offseason). Barrie is obsolete in edmonton now and should be moved for a man that is good defensively. Given that kraken need a pp1 QB (especially knowing gio is gone) he can fetch soucy who has term and is solid defensively and can transition the puck. This also allows other anchors like kassian to become more obsolete and guys with value (like yamo) more tradeable in the offseason

Hawks aren't going to accept that. They've already rejected offers from at least 3 (some say 4) teams that included a 1st and good prospect for Hagel. It's safe to assume then it will take at least a 1st and a top prospect to pry Hagel away and Lavoie is not a top prospect so the trade at first glance is missing that. The Oilers would have to move one of their top 3 or 4 prospects.

Flowers will cost a 2nd, but retained and taking cap back in Kos, could move that 2nd to a 1st. Regardless a 3rd isn't going to get it done.

Samorukov doesn't add much of any value to the Hawks. They are super deep with LHD young players/prospects that are 3rd liners with 2nd line upside; Samorukov just adds to a logjam of those types of guys.

I mean I think yamo probably gets the deal done over having lavoie there and maybe one of tulio, savoie, muzneburger instead of samorukov. after that its quite fair especially given that edmonton pick is still going to be in a decent spot unless they get past WCF which if so chi gets oilers 2nd as is cause keith is playing top 4 mins

The BHagel is worth giving up lots for with a contract like that. Its quite a bit for EDM to give up but not pieces that would hurt them down the road too much. If CHI accepts, it might be a tough pill to swallow especially if Fleury walks away but you for sure have hagel for a couple more years. YES for EDM, CHI though, unless someone is offering a 1st, 3rd and a Lavoie type prospect for the BHagel, CHI might do this, but if they can get that for BHagel then they may as well do that and get another 1st for retaining MAF and taking an expiring contract. So I think No for CHI. Might be able to get 2 1st would be why
