Description
You can only do so much with a generally flawed roster but it seems like a waste to not at least make a push with prime McDavid/Draisaitl in what is an open Pacific division.

The offense once healthy is fairly deep and a good distribution of size and skill. I wouldn't make much change there with the exception of moving out Archibald for cap space since he's only available for home games anyways.

In net, with Fleury and Varlamov declining to go to Edmonton, there's no real upgrade out there. Wedgewood is on an expiring contract and has put up respectable numbers on a lottery team. Arizona flips him and takes the extra year of Smith.... most of it will likely be on LTIR anyways and will help Arizona hit the cap floor. Good place for him to retire and Arizona brings back a veteran mentor for Vejmelka.

With goaltending not having real options to upgrade, focus was on defense. Next best way to keep the puck out is to add a the best rental Dman available. This is likely a higher price than I'd actually think the Oilers would pay given their non-contender status but close to what it sounds like Anaheim would be asking for.

I had read an article somewhere about Barrie for Subban. Both have the same faults but would prefer the size of Subban. I could see New Jersey not necessarily wanting another puck mover though.

Devils don't want to take on Barrie long term. Rather Subban walk for nothing
    JackForHart and Devil liked this.

Pat Verbeek will get a far better return for Hampus Lindholm then that.

Rumour is the asking price is a 1st, 3rd, and top prospect as per Dreger. I realize Samorukov is a B prospect and not a top prospect... but to compensate for that there's a 2nd instead of a 3rd and then swapping 2nd and 3rds in 2023 as a sweetener. Anaheim may end up with a better offer (supposedly Boston, STL are front runners) but I don't think this is completely out to lunch.

Why trade Archie if you're getting nothing in return?
