I have seen a wide range of trade suggestions for these two pending RFAs. Often asking for top-10 pick as well as top prospect in return.
Picks
Of all the 250 top-10 picks in last 25 years, only 9 have been traded for NHL players. None were for pending RFAs. I am not counting pick-for-pick trades or trades made long before draft (ie, Duchene trade, Karlsson trade).
2021 (#9): Garland, OEL, $12 million in cap relief
2017 (#7): With DeAngelo for Stepan and Raanta
2013 (#9): Cory Schneider
2012 (#8): With Dumoulin, Sutter for Jordan Staal
2011 (#8): With Voracek for Jeff Carter
2002 (#4): Ruslan Fedotenko and two 2nds
2001 (#2): With Chara for Yashin
2000 (#5): Kevin Weekes
1999 (#8): Palffy & Smolisnki
Prospects
Using The Hockey News's annual prospect ranking from last 5 years, of the 157 guys that have been listed among the top-50, there have only been five that have been traded as a prospect along with a 1st round pick:
Peyton Krebs (#19 in 2020, #18 in 2021, #23 in 2022)
Conor Timmins (#28 in 2018)
Josh Norris (#39 in 2020)
Urho Vaakanainen (#39 in 2019)
Nick Merkely (#49 in 2018)
These guys were traded for Jack Eichel, Darcy Kuemper, Eric Karlsson, Hampus Lindholm, and Taylor Hall. None of those trades included a known top-10 pick. None were done at the draft (or days leading into draft)
Others -- Raddysh, Hajek, Guhle and Grundstrom were all between 51-100 in 2018 and were dealt with 1st picks. Addison rose to #60 in 2022 after he was dealt. All were in-season deals. Brannstrom, Suzuki, Kapanen, Fox, Bokk were all listed in top-50 at one time, but traded without a 1st. Barron, Katchouk, Madden, Joseph, Kuokkanen were all in top-100 and dealt without 1sts. Most were in-season deals.
--------------
In short, I have found no precedent for the asking prices on some of these players. There are plenty of good comps people can use (see below), but asking for a top pick and a top prospect is tough to justify.
Well done, this is a great analysis, I have a feeling that if 5 smart individuals that were fans of completely different teams would make a good front office.
I think that something that differentiates the canucks in some of these situations is that the canucks have some glaring holes that they need to fill so trades will need to be tailored to them. I think that the value of boeser to the canucks is greater than his trade value at the moment. I think that because of this it would have to be a really enticing deal that included one of the following
A. top 10 pick
B. Top RD prospect u22
C. High upside playmaking centre
Boeser will probably still sign his deal with the canucks, and I believe that he has the intentions of getting one done for a reasonable price, and I think that will bring up his value will be close to that of the max pat deal.
