Description
Offense:

Yes, the stacked Jets offense doesn't really need another forward but Beauvillier is exactly the kind of a player their top 6 is lacking - someone ho who plays a good defensive game. Wheeler, Scheifele, Connor, Perfetti, Ehlers, all these players are pure offensive minded so Beauv would bolster the 5v5 defensive aspect. Also I understand that Beauvillier is the kind of a player the Isles would love to keep but I don't really see them signing Dobson unless someone else goes. The rest of the F group is hard to move considering those terrible contracts so here we go.

Defense:

1) Assuming both Heinola and Samberg become regular NHL players next season some room need to be made
2) Would hate to see Schmidt go but he is just too expensive for that 3rd line role. His offensive upside will be replaced by Heinola
3) It is little weird to expect the Islanders get two dmen in one single trade but - they will loose Chara and likely Greene too next season. Dillon is exactly the kind of a dman Lou would like to get - big and physical, Stanley is just younger and also a little worse version of him
4) Lyubushkin even strenght analytics are actually really good, he would be a great 3rd pairing option
5) Sustr to be the depth 7th dman

It's nice that Beauvillier is the kind of forward the Jets are lacking, but there is no chance the isles would do this trade. You can add both of the jets 2nd rd picks and the isles would still decline.

So you made the point that you don't see them signing Dobson unless someone else goes but Stanley and Dillon combined make about the same as Beauvillier. You could have just used this site to find out that the islanders have 12.25 mill in cap space next season.

How about Josh Bailey and Ross Johnston for Samberg since were making terrible trades today.

Yes, because the mainly need the defense enhancement. You're right, though, about the Isles cap situation, I had wrong info. Well, I can see Appleton replacing him on the 1st line then

Why would they need to trade Beauvillier for a defenseman? They have 3 top pair caliber defenseman (pelech, pulock, dobson) and their top prospect is a LHD.

They only need to fill one spot next seasonL:
Pelech-Pulock
UFA--Dobson
Salo-Mayfield

Dobson likely gets a bridge, which will be in the 5.5-6 mill range. That leaves around 6 mill to fill the LD2 spot with someone like Kulak, Ian Cole, Mike Reilly etc. They don't need to trade Beauvillier, they have a ton of cap space , and they are definitely not trading one of their best two way wingers under the age of 25 for a 31 YO D who can't skate

the defense is terrible because they have two guys who play regularly who are not nhl caliber players and then mayfield who needs a puck mover to play well playing with andy greene. stanley doesn't really solve those problems at all and in fact just presents the same issues. i like dillon and he might be a nice add but it's not the right deal.
