May 20th, 2021. The Habs embarked on what many, including myself, thought would be a short, season ending series against the Toronto maple leafs. Not many of us thought we’d be given one of the most fun and exciting playoff runs we’ve experienced in recent memory. I was born in ‘02, so I was 7 when Halak carried the team past the powerhouse Capitals and Penguins to the eastern conference finals, and wasn’t much into watching hockey a few years later when Chris Kreider ended what was probably gonna be a Stanley cup final appearance when he took out Carey price and ended the Habs playoff run in game 1 of the eastern conference finals. The 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens were nothing to write home about: they finished with a losing record behind two teams that missed the playoffs, and only got in because of a week division. The year before they finished 24th and only got in the playoffs because of a Covid play-in. This team still managed to give us so many memorable moments: Byron’s shorty GWG in game 1, Galchenyuk finally paying back bergevin for drafting him with a sweet dish to set up Suzuki and Caufield on a 2-0 in OT to force game 6, Dermott turning it over to Byron to feed KK to send the series the distance capping off an OT period where the Habs were outshot 13-2 in overtime, and game 7 where they completely shut the leafs down to send Leafsland into a frenzy for the next few days (man those were a fun few days watching the fan base implode). Second round brought us the jets, who I had been cheering for in the first round in preparation for us to fall to the leafs; they presented a bigger threat to Toronto than the oilers and their lack of goaltending. We all remember mark Scheifele’s d*****bag hit on Jake Evans, he absolutely deserved his suspension and some. The Habs made sure he wouldn’t see the ice again by sweeping those a**holes. Then came Vegas, and this is where I thought the magical run would die; These guys were stacked and had just handled a Stanley cup favourite in Colorado, and the run absolutely looked dead after that game 1. Habs kept game 2 close and Fleury gifted them a game 3 win. Knights win game 4 in ot and the Habs handle game 5. Then came game 6, and probably the game I’ll remember the most of this run. I’ll never forget that OT, the best “Good Stick Lehky” moment of his Montreal career. This team was punching way above its weight class and they had just punched their ticket to the cup final. Then price came back to earth and they lost in 5, but I will say I cheered probably as much when they won game 4 to not get swept as I did when they beat the jets in 4 to go to the conference finals. All in all it was an outstanding run and we will most likely never see anything like it again in our lifetime. I watched every game of that run with my grandpa, we cheered, we yelled, we cussed, and we celebrated together. We broke out the scotch and screamed till 2 in the morning that night they went to the final. I’ll always cherish those memories. If you’ve read all this, I appreciate it, and I hope you look back on that run with the same fondness that I do. Always remember where you were and who you were with when you watched our stupid team come within three wins of the Stanley friggin Cup.
that was a magical run and i cherish it a lot. itnwas truly magical. thats why im always happy when there is team who havent had succes in a while get a cup apperance. i'll cheer next year again for teams like the leafs who have been in so much pain on the last 15 years, it will just feel that much better when they win. or any underdog like uss really!
I'll remember Lehkonen's goal for the rest of my life.
Shea Weber might not have played his best hockey in MTL, but he is the best captain i've seen with the Habs.
Carey Price carried that team to the Stanley Cup Finale. I don't think we'll see a goalie that good in MTL for the rest of our lives.
The team fed off Suzuki and Caufield energy. The way they played showed us MTL have a great future with them.
They were heart broken seeing Weber and Price lose their last chance at a cup. One day, they'll be the veterans and they'll get another shot at Lord Stanley.

my favorite moment was the hightstick to corey perry no called, then anderson scores in overtime and you see perry coming back to congratulate everyone while still bloody.
