Description
I think whether the Caps were to play the Rangers or the Panthers, my thoughts would be similar (besides having a better shot against the Rangers):

Caps right now are not a good team. They are playing slow, unenergetic, and uninterested. 4 game losing streak heading into playoffs is not good, to say the least.

But we have seen this Caps team this season play against some of the best teams in the league and dominate play. Going to be an obvious statement, but more than ever, the Caps will need to lean on Kuzy, Ovi, Wilson, and Mantha. Backy and Oshie will play big factors too, but I think this season, they are a little too banged up to be fully "relied" on to produce. 4th line will have an incredibly difficult task to be that shutdown line. 3rd line will need to produce some sort of two way game (offense and defense), which has been nonexistent recently.

My prediction is Panthers in 5. I would LOVE to be proven wrong by the Caps, but I think the Panthers win Game 1, 3, 4, and 5.

These are my hopeful lines for Game 1:

These lines are amazing 🤩. I think the top 9 is really well put together. You have Ovi as the goal scorer for the first line, and Wilson would most likely be the main enforcer throwing the big hits. Backstrom is the scorer for the 2nd line with sherry doing some of the dirty work. The third line is also pretty well thought out. The fourth line for me is questioning. The Defense though is perfect and the goalies are fine. Still wondering if they are playing Samsonov, or Vanecek. For me I’m saying Panthers in four. My opinion.

Thank you!

What would your fourth line be?

No problem! My fourth line would probably be Connor McMicheal, Nic Dowd, and Garnet Hathaway, but I think Larsson could play as well if McMicheal isn’t playing well. Both players had great seasons for fourth liners.

I am conflicted on McMichael. He does not finish, which is extremely frustrating. But the numbers show he drives offense and the Caps actually control play better with him on the ice. I think Larsson has been extremely well as a 2 way forward. Similar to a Hags, but provides some offense.

I think if the Caps need a switch, I would actually bench Eller for McMichael. I realize this would probably never happen with Lavs, but just my two cents

Seems like a realistic line prediction. I think they may have a better chance with a Ovechkin-Kuzy-Sheary first line with a Mantha-Backstrom-Wilson second line but its incredibly boom or bust. I think this break may actually be what the team needed, as it allows Ovi to recover and the rest of the team to get their heads in the game. I'm a bit optimistic this time around, given the Florida goalie situation is quite sketchy, but realistically this seems like a 5 or 6 game series loss.

I do have complete faith in the 4th line though, Dowd and Hathaway have been solid all year, and Larsson has meshed will with them. It's tough for any team to shut down Florida, but at the very least, this line will be quite an annoyance to the less physical Panthers.
