Description
No major additions. No major subtractions. Keeping the notable RFA's.

Let's temper some expectations.

I think they'll move on from some of the guys like White(buyout) and Zaitsev(trade) considering their contracts. Problem is, you'd need to allocate the traded/bought out funds properly to surround the young guns as they try to make the playoffs next year if they even come close.

Obviously, one would attempt to acquire a legitimate top 6 forward to play with Stutzle and a top 4 D that can support either Chabot or Sanderson going forward. But what would that cost? Or does that player come from within?

Can Thomson and JBD become those support players for Chabot and Sanderson? How quickly can Kleven make an impact out of the NCAA at the end of next year?

Is Greig going to be better than advertised? Can Sokolov become a underrated top 6? Jarventie looks pretty slick as does Lodin... Maybe Ostapchuk who's having a wicked playoffs for the Vancouver Giants?

Can Matt Murray stay healthy?

Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!

I would be pretty disappointed if they didn’t at least bring in 1 impact forward. We’ve gotta make some moves to actually improve at some point. The emergence of Joseph as a potential top line complementary piece allowing us to put Batherson with Stutzle is nice, but they could really use another winger. Formenton-Pinto-C. Brown would be an excellent 3rd line. At that point I would consider our forwards settled and then it’s just hoping the D and G can stabilize

Honestly, just removing White and Zaitsev from the lineup makes this team that much better. But, they need to be replaced by something more. The removal of White opens up a spot for an acquisition of some kind. Both financially and in the top 6/9 (nice). Fiala is the obvious go to, maybe even a Perron in Free Agency or otherwise (Giroux). The problem becomes is how much are those going to cost in the long-term? Perron and Giroux are both pushing mid 30. Anything longer than 3 years is a little much. Specially with a certain German stud on the last year of his ELC. Fiala won't be cheap and we will most likely need to part with our top 10 pick this year (unless it's top 2 miraculously).

As for Zaitsev... just having him not on the ice makes that much more of a difference. On the ice... need I say more. Off the ice, it creates a revolving door for our young guys to get some looks like Thomson and JBD (maybe even Guenette). Some "healthy competition". Brannstrom gets a stable partner in Holden on that 3rd pair. It also maybe opens something up for a trade involving one of the young D.

Matt Murray is the real enigma in this equation. His health is of a concern. I hope he bounces back but we said that last year and well...

Outlook 2022-23:

Tkachuk-Norris-Joseph
Top 6-Stutzle-Batherson
Formenton-Pinto-Brown
Kelly-Kastelic-Watson

Chabot-Hamonic
Sanderson-Zub
Holden-Brann/Thomson/JBD

Forsberg
Murray/Gus

I agree with your assessment. Getting rid of Zaitsev and White via buyouts would just create more cap problems in future years when Sens really need the cap. And even in 22/23 with bonuses tihe Sens are closer to the cap. Just might have to stay the course next season, and develop the young guys.
