Description

The Caps, Pens, and Bruins could be all entering rebuilds. It's gonna be strange not seeing Sid and Ovi in the playoffs especially if it happens as early as next year. (I doubt it because I have a feeling the Islanders are gonna be terrible with no more Trotz, the Flyers still being terrible, and the Blue Jackets still being a team that isn't a basement team but not a playoff team). The only way I see both Sid and Ovi missing the playoffs is if Jersey finally gets goaltending. Obviously one of them could miss the playoffs if Detriot, Ottawa, or Buffalo take that next step. If Backstrom is forced to hang up the skates due to injury that would be a huge loss. Washington has had good centre depth for a few years now and the loss of Backstrom is gonna hurt them down the middle especially if Eller stays and can't put up some extra points while playing 2C. Eller has proven that he can fill the 2C role if one of Backstrom/Kuzy gets hurt, but he's now older.

I think it could be something CHI looks at though may consider trying to find alternatives before deciding to buy a goalie. We could also buy Hill from SJS for the same price if we made the decision to buy.
