I'd rather have Mercer personally. I don't think New Jersey moves either though.

I think it will be really hard to move NJD out of #2 spot without #3, #4, or #5 going back. Just based on history, the teams that have traded down from top-5 have dropped 2-4 spots (not nearly a full round).

The only comp for what a lot of fans are expecting (2nd overall, plus a player and/or prospect for Fiala’s rights) is the 2001 Alexis Yashin trade. NYI sent #2 and Zdeno Chara to OTT for the rights to Yashin, who was due a raise (the pick turned out to be Jason Spezza). NJD should be wise enough not to replicate NYI’s 2001 mistake.

As a Devils fan, I would happily offer 2-3 good pieces because I feel confident he would sign here. But no Yashin size packages.

Still no. With the way this draft is, NJ can see multiple round 1 graded guys for them available in the 2nd anyway. Plus Greenway is terrible

Yeah nobody should be using a Mike Milbury trade as comparable for anything. Dude is all four faces on the Mount Rushmore of terrible GMs.
