It's not really up to Kapanen though, right - he's an RFA and his QO is only like $840,000. There's room to give him $1.5mil. He could try to fight it in arbitration. If so, let him go and bump up Erod.

Speaking of Erod - if they have the cap space, why not? Should they just waste cap space? Plus, they had McGinn making the same money to do that this past year.

I would be surprised if a guy who has been in the league 7 years and had one good year gets that much of a raise - especially since that would have him making more than Rust. I would be pleasantly surprised if Malkin takes less. Either way, as long as the increase/decrease offsets, they can still field this roster. Could have Marchment as an alternative to Nichushkin as well.

As for term, I wasn't that concerned so you could be right - I just left it on the years that auto populated I think.
