Buying out Trouba would give us the 4m to match Kakko alone. Not signing a 6m 2C this summer like most think. Lindgren could easily be traded for a nice return while moving Jones into that spot. It’s going to need to be a 6m+ for them to let him got for picks. Chytil, Goodrow, Reaves all have trade value as well. 4.2M isn’t going to be an issue for the basically extinct OS. If no one did it to TB after Stanley cups for better players(Cirelli, Serg, Cernak) then KAkko is safe

That's wishful thinking and Rangers are not going to buy out Trouba. Drury just added Goodrow, Blais, and Reaves because they need toughness. He isn't going to buyout or trade one of his best hard nose players in Trouba to save Kakko. Nor should he. Having guys like Trouba, Lindgren, Goodrow, and Reaves is vital to playoff ranger team.

The argument in the previous post isn't whether or not it is realistic for a team to offersheet Kakko, but if it happened, could the Rangers afford to match it? The answer appears to be no.

Excatly my point. You don't have to want Kakko badly, you just offer sheet him to screw Rangers good time. Drury got a lot of work to move this team forwards, they are good on top, but very thin down the line.

Hahaha you’re going to be very angry when your GM doesn’t do it, no other GM does it. He will sign a bridge around 3M to be with a contender instead of going to a rebuild mess if the 4.2 is even offered. It’s a pipe dream. You need to make it worth his while to move to a bad team who he may not be with by the time they are contending.. Drury brought in the grit to help train the kids how to be tougher and to protect them. Laf is way tougher than last year, Kakko also. They are all going to be a few pounds bigger, stronger next year and more skilled. People really don’t calculate the growth from within into the equation. He could subtract something and still be tougher than this season. Blais didn’t even play 60% of the season so he will be adding grit immediately

Not necessarily. Teams might OS Kakko with the intentions of going for the bigger fishes, so to speak. Lafreniere, Miller, and Chytil would be due after next season, with Lundkvist, Shneider, and Lindgren the year after that. It would really never have been about just Kakko, as he is the smallest fish on the list. With the contract Reaves has, he doesn’t hold much value. For someone who plays between 7 and 11 minutes per game, really only to be a goon, you aren’t getting much for him.

If the Rangers don’t sign a 2C for 6mil, would they bump Chytil up to 2C? Yes it gives them cap space, but the cost would be not being a contender. So is it really worth the Rangers matching an OS to Kakko? With the bigger fish involved in the big picture, no Kakko is not worth it. The worst thing that could happen would be the maximum for a second rounder for 1 year. Much like the KK situation in MTL, if he gets matched, he either gets traded or doesn’t get qualified. I think the Rags take contending for the cup over Kakko.
