Vancouver revamps the Defense

Trades up, obviously this means that there is a player that they like at around the 15th but they but they have a bunch of picks. Both firsts are bottom end of the 1rst and potentially 31/32

Trade down, Vancouver needs more trade assets / prospect depth

Vegas is in cap trouble, I believe this package is worthy of Vegas' attention

Rathbone is NHL ready, Has a great shot, great mobility, and very smart. He'll be a great 3rd pairing option with some smart deployments on the PP units as he conditions himself the NHL.

DiPietro is a hell of a character, small but agile and competitive but Canucks have some goalie depth and Vegas could use an extra shot in the barrel to develop a replacement for Lehner

Theodore is a Lefty but works on either side can move around at any position on the backend at a really good number locked for 3 years

(insert any team here) I'm sure there is someone out there who wants a 6'7" RD that moves well and eats minutes.

Canucks retain 1-2 million so the contract fits to the mid pairing / PK role he'll play in.

Van clears for cap space

Canucks will allow the Devils to negotiate a contract prior to the trade happening so it's not a rental

There has been history of these 2 teams doing the same type of deal (9th overall [Horvat] for Cory Schneider)

Clearly that didn't work out for NJD but goalies are not very projectable so that was pretty bad in the first place

There are many frameworks for a JT Miller trade

The most reasonable is likely to amass a plethora of picks and prospects.

This doesn't bring the quantity but brings in quality instead.

A bottom 6 option that has a defensive toolset which seems to be a good fit for Ottawa to compliment their plethora of skilled forwards
