I dont think the Ducks can afford to move Rico, the value he provides our young C core as a leader, mentor and someone that can play on all 4 lines as both a winger and a C provides too much value to a young team that just lost Getzlaf

Something built around Gibby and Girard+Johnson could have some merit for both sides though

Yeah it was an idea suggested to me so it's just to see if it would work. Henrique is attractive exactly for the reasons you mentioned. Placeholder in effect until Newhook is ready. Otherwise I don't see anything attractive enough to the Avs that Anaheim would be willing to let go. There is possibly something there to work at though I agree. It's the one place EJ might waive for if as I believe he has a home there and it's something to do with his horse racing?

Yeah without Rico our centre depth (age, games played) would be Zegras (21YO, 99GP), McTavish (19YO, 9GP), Lundestrom (22YO, 151GP) and Sam Steel (24YO, 197GP)
Other in-org options -> BOG (22YO, 18GP), Sam Carrick (30YO, 111GP)
Im not counting Derek Grant because I hope Verbeek takes him away from Eakins and even if he doesnt he isnt anything more than a 4th liner tears of joy

Rico provides so much value to ANA I would argue hes our 3rd most valuable forward (that played in ANA last year) behind only Z and Terry

Outside of Terry, Zegras, McTavish and Drysdale I dont think anyone would be untouchable (Maybe Zellweger)

If you guys win the cup I cant see EJ having a problem getting moved

Yeah I think that would be the big test....IF we win the cup he would likely feel 'happier' about it. Big IF though at the moment, and partly why we're discussing Gibson lol. The other If they win the cup scenario is it makes them more likely to consider DK their man. In addition EJ's money has always been kind of earmarked for Nate's big raise so that also is a concern. Once it gets to this kind of scenario it makes me glad it's just folks discussing it online and I'm not in a GM's shoes!

Don’t love this for the Avs. Henrique is a solid get, but not as much value as Girard. Gibson has been lackluster for a few years and is still on that big contract. Johnson is overpaid, but at least it only has one year left.
