Description
This trade happens after July 1.
As of July 1, Kerfoot has a 10-team no trade, and Leafs will have paid his $1.95M signing bonus, leaving only $750k in actual salary for the yotes to pay for the season.
Muzzin still has a no trade, so would need to waive, but the Leafs will have already paid his $2M signing bonus for the year, meaning he is only owed a total of $6M real cash for the final 2 seasons of his deal ($2M in 22/23 & $4M in 23/24)
This helps ARZ reach the Cap floor without paying nearly as much actual salary.
Also, Kerfoot can be flipped as a rental at the deadline for additional picks/prospects for ARZ.

Muzzin will not waive for Arizona. There are probably 5 teams in the league he would waive for-- and none of them will have the cap space, or an interest.

He will be a Leaf this year.

Kerfoot is definitely not a cap dump - especially given his real dollars next year are only $750k (even his actual cap hit is still completely reasonable for a player of his profile).
He is a very versatile, valuable player to a team like Arizona next season with that contract.

Muzzin may be a bit overpaid at this point in his career, but for the actual dollars Arizona will pay ($2M this coming season, $4M the season after), he's also not a cap dump.

The only real Cap dump in the proposed trade is Mrazak.
And don't forget, Arizona still needs to ADD almost $28M in cap hit just to reach the cap floor next season.

Also Nick Robertson + 1st rounder are definitely not "spare parts".

Ya, you're probably right... I originally thought he only had a 10-team no trade, but that doesn't kick in until July 1 2023. Until then it's a full no-trade.

I guess you could try to appeal to his huge love of golf to sell Arizona as a destination? Sticking Out Tongue

Muzzin and Mrazek are who I was referencing. You wouldn’t find many teams who would take on either at full cap hits at this point so that by nature makes them cap dumps. Kerfoot is a nice secondary piece, Robertson is a good prospect but not high end, first is nice but it’s in latter half. Maybe more than spare parts but certainly not a real central piece to be found in any of this, especially when the two most intriguing pieces are partially offset by some of the other players in the trade.
