Description
With Compher and Johnson coming off the books next year, there's plenty to sign MacKinnon, Byram, and Newhook (unless one of the RFAs has a huge year). Burakovsky is least likely to return and Kadri depends what he is offered by other teams (likely to test free agency but potentially remain in Colorado long term for a $1m pay cut; likely to get $8m long term on open market. Hoping cap jump and Francouz cap hit are enough to re-sign Toews to a $7m deal (otherwise Girard would likely get traded).

You know what, I really like this. People will come on here and say NO WAY KADRI TAKES LESS THAN 8. But I think your take is solid. Kadri will take a look around the league and decide that he's best just continuing on in COL. The only way he considers leaving is if a no-tax state team offers him a really sweet deal (DAL, FLA, TB, NSH, VGK).

seriously, that has us paying him 7 mil till hes 40. Just let him go if that's the case. We traded for him and we can trade for another 2C

I think Colorado's Best option would be to let Kadri go. Let Newhook assume the role of 2c that will most likely be his soon. The aves roster is so good that if he is not ready for it they will still be top of the standings and can trade for a rental add the deadline and move him down. However, If he succeeds then they have their future 2C firing with confidence for years to come. I think the worst thing you can do is limit his upside by signing Kadri long term to a contract that will anchor the team in the next few years

Issue with keeping Manson, expensive D, and Kadri, is that the next year Avs have to pay Newhook, Byram and in two years Toews. All of them, IMO, are of the higher priority than these two. Also, Lekhonen and Nichushkin will look for 0.5-1M more I'm afraid.
