Description
Reasoning for Minny:
Kane gets them a bull of a power forward who is always playing at 110% and can pot 30 goals when healthy. Although he's never had a chance to prove it, he's one of those players that would wear down opposing teams in the playoffs. He is, however, set to become a UFA after this upcoming season. Baptiste is a ripe RW prospect who has impressed in short stints in Buffalo and will likely make the jump next season. And to even things out, they get their second round pick back for this years draft.
The Wild have $11.44M in space right now (maybe a little more if the cap goes up) with only 15/23 roster spots filled. 5 RFAs on the roster and a few more in the system. I'd imagine that they'll want to re-sign the likes of Granlund, Nino, Haula, Folin, Reilly, Olofsson, etc. which will cost at least $15M by my estimates. If no changes are made and Vegas took Dumba in the expansion draft (Brodin protected), they'll only have around $13M in space and probably lose either Granlund or Nino.
If Pommer and Brodin were traded and Vegas takes Scandella (Dumba protected), they'll have around $17.7 in cap space (including Kane and Baptiste's contracts) and could sign all their RFAs and even have room for a cheap vet 4C or depth defenseman. Losing Brodin and Scandella would leave a hole on LD, but I figured that Reilly and Olofsson have to get their chance at some point.

Reasoning for Buffalo:
Jonas Brodin slides into our top spot and gives Risto a solid partner. This allows McCabe to move down to the second pair and give Antipin a physically dominant partner. Taking Pommer's contract off of Minny's hands allows us to get him without giving up a core piece. And Pommer isn't useless. He put up 47 points this past season and I could see him pairing up nicely on Reinhart's wing. I wouldn't want to lose Baptiste, but RW is our most expendable position right now.
Additionally, if Nylander doesn't make the team out of camp we can move Foligno up and put Moulson on the fourth line.

The retained money benefits both teams. Minny has a cap problem this year, so they'd gain around $1.625M of space to make their signings and even pick up an extra piece to make another run at the cup. We're going to hit that wall next season, and with Kane's contract over we'll have an extra $1M of Pommer's contract to work with. Unless the CBA has rules regarding retaining money at both ends of a trade, this helps both parties.

Giving up too much considering we are taking Pominville's Salary off their hands
Keep Kane (they won't want a guy they'd have to protect anyways) and MAYBE add in someone like Fasching

And if we are bringing in Pommer, idk that we need Gionta? If we did have them both, I think the lines for them would be switched... or even put Pommer w/ ROR & Okposo w Jack, bump down either Girgs or E Rod

I LIKE Baptiste btw & really hope we don't trade him
He has the speed & sniping ability to be Jack's winger at some point (he played wing w McDavid in Juniors)

Kane fills the scoring void left by Pommer for Minnesota and fits their window, so he's a relatively important part of the deal in my opinion. I proposed the idea to Wild fans without the 2nd rounder added in and they seemed on the fence, so maybe using a later pick would've got the job done without overpaying. Additionally, I'd swap out Baptiste with either Fasching or Bailey with no problem.

You're right about the lines, I meant to have him and Gio switched. I think Pommer would be a great winger to bounce off of Reinhart as he settles in at center. About Gio, he may be unnecessary but depth never hurts. If he wants to come back on a cheaper one year deal (and probably give up the C), why not?

    Wild say no.

Kane is a rental LW and that's a team strength for the Wild. Parise, Zucker, Granlund, Nino are all LHS. That would leave Coyle as the only RHS in the top-9 (all the centers are LHS also).

I know Sabres fans are really high on Baptise, but he'd be lumped with Tuch and Kunin (depending if he's a RW or C) in Iowa. Kaprizov hopefully will be in the US after next year, and Greenway after the college season this year.

Pommer isn't a huge hindrance, he's just over payed by ~$1.5m. He would have gotten 50p easily if he got a decent amount of PP time this year.

You probably know Minny's situation and options more than I do, but how do you figure that Granlund and Nino get re-signed with Pommer still on the team? There doesn't seem to be enough cap space to make that work from my perspective (especially when you consider re-signing other RFAs like Haula, Folin, Reilly, Olofsson, etc.).

That was part of my theory behind this idea - that it would give Minny the cap space to re-sign their impact players and maybe sign a depth guy to cover the losses in the expansion draft, while getting a good prospect, pick, and hard-hitting scoring threat in return. Also, doesn't Nino like to play on the right side?

I actually don't think this is far off from MNWild perspective. We have to throw somthing/someone in to get Pominville off the books, and SwissCheese is correct in his assumption that we'll need to make him go to re-sign Granlund and Niederreiter. I think they'll end up sending Nino away, and make the team we trade him to take Pommer.
