Description
Longtime lurker first time poster.

Give Lebanc and Dahlen another chance while also playing the youth.
Trading Lebanc now would be terrible since his value could not be much worse and I think he will rebound. He has an incredibly shot and creative puck handling skills, but is a very streaky player.

Help EDM a bit with a trade for Kane but retaining and taking cap dumps will actually cost something otherwise why wouldn't SJ just buy him out for less? Both sides have reasons to have lower expectations in the trade value, so I don't see it going lopsided in either direction.

Hill and Simek can go to anyone with room that want to upgrade for picks. Reimer has a NTC so more difficult to move and a Kahk/Reimer split season is a solid goalie situation.

Not sure if buying out Vlasic now opposed to next year is wise, but he's terrible at his current price and not tradeable. A buyout now would allow him to go play somewhere else and will allow SJ to play younger D who are ready.

This is probably a team that remains in the barely missing playoffs while refusing rebuild purgatory . I don't think a single UFA signing, e.g., Mason Marchment is going to take them into the playoffs, and I don't think the owner will ever let SJ go to full rebuild (trading away fan-favorites is a no no). So just accept fate and roll it for the next couple years until expiring contracts get them out of trouble.

This is the most realistic trade with Edmonton I’ve seen if Kane gets reinstated. The idea that Edmonton fans have, thanks to that speculative rabbit whole article, that San Jose will give away Kane and take cap dumps for free is ridiculous.

What they dont realize is given another option to another place Kane will take the money and not end up in Edmonton.

Yep, I see SJ taking on 2mil max in cap retention if the Kane situation doesn't end up in SJ's favor. Don't see them taking on Kassian with it though. In any case, if I were GM, I'd link up the Kane situation directly to Vlasic's potential buy out. I'd spend the maximum possible to improve the team via free agency and trade (given that they've already committed to trying to be good) and then if Kane's situation is all clear, I keep Vlasic. If not and SJ has to retain a few mil if they trade him to a team, then you buy out Vlasic and use that cap space to cover the retention cap hit and replace MEV with Hatakka to pair with Merkley on the bottom pairing.
