Ottawa is in a very good position. They have a lot of very young, good players and have a crazy amount of flexibility. Their D corp is rough but they can solve that in time, maybe even in UFA.

Fiala wasn't their only option. Forsberg would be a very nice add for sure. But there are a lot of very good UFA's this year.

I don’t think that Forsberg goes to Ottawa at that price tag. Unfortunately for Canadien teams like the Sens, I think they will have to overpay to get Forsberg to come there. I mean, the Canadien market just isn’t where you win Stanley Cups right now. The last 2 Canadien teams to come within 1 game of winning the cup was Vancouver in 2011 and Edmonton in 2006. And the last Canadien team to win the Stanley Cup was the Habs in 1993 I believe. Forsberg will want to chase the Cup for sure, and he will do whilst making a lot of money.

I will say, I’m kind of shocked it was LA that nabbed Fiala. I was expecting Fiala to go to one of Ottawa, New Jersey, or Carolina. Needless to say I’m a little disappointed that the Canes didn’t snag Fiala, but as they say, the early bird gets the worm.
